That Certain Place

Genesis 28:10-22 shares the account of Jacob’s dream. Prior to these passages we find that Jacob has been sent out by Isaac to find a wife. As the day was coming to an end he stopped for the night to rest. Verse 11 states, "When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep."
What Jacob thought was just a place he had stopped to rest for the evening became a place that was very significant. Genesis 28:16 states, "When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, 'Surely the LORD is in this place, and I was not aware of it. ' ” As I read this passage my thoughts couldn’t help but wonder how many times I aimlessly just go about life not aware of the LORD's being in “this place.”
As I was studying this passage of scripture in The Patriarchs by Beth Moore, she spoke of praying for an increased awareness of God’s presence. That struck a cord in my heart. I need to make that a daily prayer in my life. You may be like me, and when something like that is taught you say, "Well, yes, I knew that." But, I really wonder how many times I may be in that “certain place, ” without the awareness of God’s presence? Oh, ladies, how I long to daily be more aware of His presence. Won’t you join me on this journey?
